Do I think Bible reading is as necessary as brushing my teeth? Absolutely.

There is a parallel between them.

If I neglected either of them it wouldn’t take too long for people not to want to get too close or be around me.

Over the long haul without either of them I would regress and no longer be able to eat meat. Only soft stuff would be in my diet.

The kicker is that while I am disciplined about daily Bible reading, I often approach it like I do brushing my teeth. If I am not careful it can become a mindless part of my morning routine.

Now let’s think about flossing. Dental floss gets at the stuff you can’t see that got stuck. We also need the regular mental floss of God’s word to open our eyes to the stuff that we’ve missed or got stuck in our minds.

Lord, may I be as disciplined with my Bible reading time as I am with daily dental hygiene, but be so much more mindful and quiet so I can hear from you.

This was so good! I shared this on our Women’s ministry page. Thanks for this reminder!
